Love Held Him There: Psalm 22 Morning Meditation

We continue revisiting previously released Morning Meditation episodes—creating space to listen again, linger longer, and notice what God may be speaking through familiar words.

This week we return to Psalm 22, a Psalm many recognize through the words Jesus spoke from the cross:

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Often associated with Good Friday, Psalm 22 gives voice to suffering, grief, and the deep longing to know God is near. Yet it is also a song of trust, redemption, and hope.

In this meditation, you are invited to bring your own pain into God’s presence. To notice where you feel wounded, abandoned, or uncertain. To sit with the reality that Jesus understands suffering from the inside out.

As you pray through this Psalm, you will discover that the story does not end in anguish. The One who cried out from the cross is also the One who conquered death and completed the work of salvation.

One reflection rises to the surface:

Nails did not hold Jesus to the cross—love did.

Love for the Father.

Love for the world.

Love for you.

Psalm 22 reminds us that even in our darkest moments, God is still at work. The story is not finished. The God who began a good work in you remains faithful to complete it.
