Surrender’s
threshold
awakens the
mystery of
infolding and infusing
new life with
ancient wisdom
In the moments when I’m frustrated with my tendency to hold on to what was, I hear my friends words,
Change happens but people transform
Or yesterday when I felt the sting of feeling not enough,
Change happens but people transform
In the midst of wrestling what-ifs,
Change happens but people transform
When I give in to feeling sorry for myself,
Change happens but people transform
And all the times I want
more stamina
greater strength
less fear
stronger faith
easier days
no pain
Change happens but people transform
When I find myself
wishing I could go back
or itching to move ahead
Change happens but people transform
Her words echo an invitation to be satisfied in this place of in-between. Because change often happens in the blink of an eye. But transformation takes time, and it often feels as if nothing’s happening.
We live in a world of get it done fast and efficiently. Producing is so much more important than becoming. It’s easy to view change through the same lens, like we are running out of time.
But we’re not.
Jesus’ sacrifice opens the door to eternity, and that means we have all the time in the world. All the time in the world to allow God to use change to transform us from the inside out.
“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT
